Although I haven't made any new video blogs I thought I would just write a updated post.

I went to a funeral yesterday. My good friend Kay that I met here in Grand Rapids, her Father passed away last week. It's such a horrible thing to say but it's such a blessing that he is finally passed. It got to the point near the end where there was not a part of his body that didn't have cancer in it. This whole story of the progression and end of his cancer and life are enough to break you in half as a person. Kay has become one of my new heroes. She along with her mother and aunt, watched as he drew his last breath and said his final words. I hope that she never has to go through that type of thing ever again. She was telling me later that is beyond words those final moments, how you feel, watching your father take his last breath when he saw you take your first, trying to be a comfort for your mom but then feeling like a basket case yourself... Just everything about it was completely surreal to her. She still can't get over how she did it. It really put my life into a certain place. I counted y blessings over and over yesterday.

It was slightly odd b/c pretty much to the day a year ago I was at my own great grandmothers funeral. You could be in one of the happiest moods and then step into a funeral home and feel like the weight of the world in on your shoulders. I have also decided that there a HUGE difference between casket/cremation funerals as well. I have been to at least 3 'burials' now and 4 'cremations' altogether and burial will turn anyone into a basket case even if you didn't know the person personally. Where cremations it's a lighter atmosphere where people will slightly cry but for the most part talk and enjoy the persons life. Burials..on the other hand, tear your heart into two. You see this shell of skin lying in front of you. It looks nothing like the person you remembered, you at that point realize that that person is gone forever. you
ll never hear their voice, smell their smell, or embrace them so you reach out to touch them one last time and all you feel is a cold, hard, shell of nothing. It's one of the most extreme situations you will ever have to go through.
